COMMISSION TO UPDATE PUBLIC ON PLAN TO REHABILITATE TRENTON-MORRISVILLE TOLL BRIDGE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, March 9, 2006MORRISVILLE, PA - The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today that it will hold an open house on Thursday, March 23 to update the community on its plan to rehabilitate the Trenton-Morrisville (Route 1) Toll Bridge, which will include the construction of a northbound auxiliary lane
The open house will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge at 835 W. Bridge St. in Morrisville, PA. This is the second open house on the project hosted by the Commission. The first public meeting to update the community and solicit input on the project was held in January 2005.
The rehabilitation is part of the Commission's ten-year, $640 million capital improvement program for system preservation, management, security and enhancement. The project, which early estimates indicate will cost more than $67 million, is currently in the design phase with construction contracts scheduled to be advertised for bids within the next few months.
Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed by the end of 2008. The planned improvements begin just south of the viaduct over the Delaware Canal and Conrail in Morrisville and end just north of the South Broad Street Overpass in Trenton, N.J.
"Public participation is a key factor in the success of the Commission's $640 million capital improvement program," said Frank McCartney, Executive Director of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. "We encourage residents to attend our open houses and provide input as these important projects, which will improve traffic conditions and reduce congestion, move forward."
